What is hypnosis?
Here’s the sciencey explanation:
Hypnosis is a state of awareness in which the individual withdraws his peripheral awareness, and concentrates all his attention on a focal goal. This creates connections between 2 areas of the brain, the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and the insula. That is the brain body connection that helps the brain process and control what is going on in the body.
Now here’s a simple explanation: If you think of your conscious mind as what you use all day long, it is very chatty, front and center! But It’s #1 job is to steer you away from pain.
Our old caveman brain still works in us today
It’s job was to steer you away from a roaring lion or danger you might encounter as you hunted for your family’s next meal. But we no longer need that old brain. If we try to quiet our mind or change something in our life that is hard to change, our conscious mind will steer us away from that change. It sees pain, it loves familiar, the mind learns by repetition.
Our mind will go back to the familiar. So what you have always thought and experienced will keep coming up and stand in your way of the change you seek. It is hard to change with your conscious mind alone. That is why you can spend 30+ years in a traditional therapist office going over the same things that you’ve been going over all along.
The subconscious mind, however, never sleeps! It records everything and knows exactly what you need to change or heal that part of you that seems unsurmountable.
Have you ever been driving and have spaced out and wondered how did I get to my destination?
Your conscious mind took a tiny nap. Your subconscious mind took over and got you to your destination. If a car had pulled out in front of you, Your conscious mind would have woken back up, and you would have slammed on the brakes and been fine. That is what Hypnosis is. Together, we are putting the conscious mind into a little nap. You are always in control. As your hypnosis therapist, I cannot go against your free will, I cannot make you do anything you do not want to do. You are in control the whole time. We are working together, talking to the subconscious mind, which has your best interest at heart and is not afraid of anything! Its job is to heal you.
Subconscious mind works in Theta brainwave. The part of the brain that allows you to accept suggestions and shuts down the critical or conscious side that will talk you out of a good thing… Any Overthinker’s here? Being in this state allows the mind to get excited and not scared. It opens you up to possibilities, creative thinking, ideas, and inspirations. This is the same brainwave you are in while you are sleeping and dreaming. It is also in this state that you are in REM: Rapid eye movement.
Understanding how your mind works will change your life! Once you understand how the Mind works, YOUR job is to show YOUR mind what YOU want! Your mind’s job is to go out and get it!
